Business trip to London yields valuable insights at ICC Europe annual meeting
The Monaco Economic Board (MEB) participated in the ICC Europe annual meeting held in London on 21 and 22 April. This major gathering, organised by ICC United Kingdom, brought together leading European figures from the International Chamber of Commerce network and representatives from over 26 European countries.
Representing the MEB, its Deputy CEO and Secretary General of ICC Monaco, Justin Highman, attended a high-level session at the Palace of Westminster, including a conference in the House of Lords with the presence of Lord Karan Bilimoria, President of ICC United Kingdom, John Denton, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce, as well as key private-sector decision-makers. The first day also offered an opportunity to engage in discussions with British and international business leaders.
The programme held on 22 April, in the heart of the City, was dedicated to ICC Europe’s work, focusing on developments in international trade amidst a backdrop of increasing regionalisation. Discussions notably addressed how the organisation, which brings together 45 million companies, is adapting its model by placing even greater emphasis on advisory services, events, and business matchmaking, with the aim of diversifying its revenue streams.
In this context, the Monaco Economic Board was able to showcase its position and raise the possibility of Monaco hosting a future ICC Europe annual meeting. Networking sessions also facilitated the development of particularly promising contacts, including with Shevaun Haviland, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce. Potential avenues for cooperation were discussed, such as participation in upcoming economic events and the exploration of joint projects, notably regarding a possible trade mission to Scotland.
During the trip, Justin Highman was also received at the Monaco Embassy in the United Kingdom for a courtesy meeting, during which prospects for strengthening economic relations through joint initiatives were discussed.
This mission aligns perfectly with the Monaco Economic Board’s strategy to strengthen its role as a chamber of commerce supporting businesses in the Principality by actively participating in leading international economic forums.
