Business Destination : Thailand

24/06/2021

In a partnership with the Thailand Embassy in France and Thailand Consulate in the Principality, Monaco Economic Board organised a Destination Business conference on 23 June dedicated to one of the most dynamic countries in its region.

After a word of welcome from H.E. Mr Sarun Charoensuwan, Thailand’s Ambassador for France and Monaco, then the Honorary Consul in Monaco, Mr Régis Bergonzi, officials from the Paris Embassy showed off the many business attractions of this kingdom in south-east Asia to the Monegasque entrepreneurs present.

The conference opened with a presentation on the Thai economy and range of incentives in place to attract investors. More in-depth presentations followed on two key sectors, the first being tourism which like many other destinations has suffered from the pandemic. In normal times, tourism accounts for a fifth of the country’s economy welcoming over 40 million tourists a year and there are signs of a recovery this summer. Another, lesser known, flagship sector is precious stones and jewellery. Bangkok is one of the capitals of jewellery fabrication and supplies many famous brands around the world.

After the conference, participants had an opportunity to network and chat with Thai representatives at the cocktail, exchanges which revealed a mutual interest from both delegations that could lead to further promotional events being organised.
