Edmund Shing’s advice for wise investing in 2026
The Monaco Economic Board (MEB), together with BNP Paribas Monaco, welcomed Edmund Shing, the Global Chief Investment Officer of BNP Paribas Wealth Management, to the Yacht Club de Monaco. Before MEB members, he provided a straightforward and informative overview of the key economic trends and investment strategies anticipated to influence 2026.
During the conference, introduced by Guillaume Rose, CEO of the MEB, and later by Eric Aubin for BNP Paribas Monaco, Edmund Shing emphasized that governments and central banks will be crucial in the coming year. They will implement support measures aimed at stimulating the economy. This effort is expected to promote growth while keeping inflation marginally above the levels seen in the decade before the 2021–2023 peak.
He advises investors to look beyond the American market and explore other regions such as Europe, Japan, and various Asian countries. These regions present promising opportunities driven by innovation, new industry growth, and active local consumption.
Edmund Shing highlighted the increasing significance of “real assets,” which include investments tied to the tangible economy such as specialised real estate, infrastructure, precious and strategic metals, or firms involved in energy and raw materials. These sectors are expected to see ongoing demand, especially with advancements in artificial intelligence, the energy transition, and technologies that rely on critical materials.
Finally, he believes Asia is emerging as a major hub of opportunities, fueled by economic reforms, technological advances, and a growing, youthful middle class. Key sectors include semiconductors, automation, batteries, and energy.
In conclusion, Edmund Shing advocated for a balanced strategy: broadening investments internationally, focusing on tangible sectors of the economy, and embracing a moderate level of risk to sustain income amid decreasing traditional returns.
The conference ended with a Q&A session with the audience, followed by the customary networking cocktail, where guests had the opportunity to discuss Mr. Shing's excellent presentation and speak directly with him. This was a special privilege that reflected the spirit of the Principality.
