International Formalities: The ATA Carnet goes digital from 1 June 2026

21/05/2026

In a world where speed and traceability have become essential, customs formalities are taking a decisive step forward. From 1 June 2026, the ATA Carnet is transitioning to a digital format with the official launch of the e-Carnet ATA.

As a privileged partner in your international development, the Monaco Economic Board (MEB) is supporting you through this transition. This major modernisation, fully integrated into the GEFI platform you already use for your procedures, aims to simplify your temporary operations while maintaining the same legal framework and customs guarantees.

πŸ“… Phased rollout starting 1 June 2026

The transition to 100% digital will be completed in stages, depending on the destination of your goods:
From 1 June 2026: the 27 countries of the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Norway, and overseas territories.
By early 2028: progressive integration, in half-yearly waves, of the other network member countries to cover all 81 countries in the ATA system.
Please note: during this transition phase, the parallel use of paper forms will still be required for some destinations.

πŸ’‘ What are the practical changes for your business?
Presentation via QR Code: when crossing borders, you will simply need to present the QR code generated by your digital carnet to the customs authorities.
Mobility and Accessibility: your carnet is becoming 100% digital, accessible at any time via a dedicated mobile application or a web interface.1
Real-time Tracking: each QR code scan enables enhanced traceability and instant monitoring of the status of your operations.1
What is not changing: the e-Carnet ATA retains exactly the same legal value, the same international regulations, and the same guarantees as before.

▢️ How does it work?

Your usual tools are adapting: the management and ordering of your e-Carnets will continue to be carried out directly via the GEFI platform.
