MEB members host Liguria

On Thursday 2 June at Yacht Club de Monaco, on the initiative of the Italian Embassy in Monaco, Monaco Economic Board welcomed several business organisations and companies from Liguria at a Business Forum to strengthen ties between the Principality and this Italian region, so close but with sometimes surprising attractions.

Planned as part of events organised for Italian National Day, the MEB was only too pleased to co-organise this forum, initiated by H.E. Guilio Alaimo, Italy’s Ambassador to Monaco.

Italy tops the ranking as number one customer and supplier for the Monegasque economy* and key partner. Liguria being only 10km away as the crow flies is an important region for trade.

Also participating in organising this event were the Riviere di Ligue and Genoa Chambers of Commerce and the Liguria region. The Italian Chamber of Commerce of Nice - Sophia Antipolis - Côte d’Azur, which signed a cooperation agreement in 2021 with MEB, was also asked to participate.

MEB Executive Director General Guillaume Rose chaired speeches and brief presentations from representatives of the different agencies. During his speech in French and Italian he said he felt “this meeting marked a new stage in trade relations between Monaco and Liguria, as the quality of companies present is so promising”.

It was followed by a networking session where around 15 MEB member companies each hosted a table to welcome the Italian delegates interested in their businesses. The agri-food sector was particularly well represented on the Ligurian side much to the satisfaction of the many hotel-catering delegates from Monaco. Companies in yachting, logistics and new technologies were also at the forum. A total of 50 meetings took place.

The event concluded with a cocktail hosted by the Italian Embassy so everyone could carry on their discussions, attended by officials and companies invited for the occasion. A sociable and effective way to make new contacts and honour the Italian national holiday which is also important in the Principality.
