Monaco Economic Board Annual General Meeting : report on 2017 & prospects for 2018

27/03/2018

Monaco Economic Board (MEB) held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 22 March attended by over 200 members, institutional partners and key figures in the Principality. New this year was that the 2017 report and programme for 2018 were presented in the form of video reports and all proposals were approved. Concluding the AGM, Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy gave a speech reiterating the Government’s support for MEB’s actions and the vital role played by the business community in the Principality’s prosperity.

2017: 51 actions and innovations

Help companies grow their business in Monaco and promote the Principality to foreign investors are the two missions that define what the MEB does all year round, with concrete results.

Monaco Chamber of Commerce organised 30 events for members, in the Principality and outside. There was a record seven Trade Missions abroad, attended by 160 business leaders, 409 contacts made, 86 projects initiated, and a 95% satisfaction rate recorded. At home, Members Rendezvous have continued to evolve with B2B meeting sessions organised ahead of the cocktail. Eleven foreign delegations were welcomed, and eight business conferences held in the Principality. Finally, the 6th Monaco Eco Club Awards put the spotlight on six remarkable Monaco entrepreneurs, some of whom are world leaders in niche markets.

Meanwhile, Monaco Invest led 21 promotional operations to attract investors to Monaco in target sectors, including Family Offices, Yachting, ICT/innovation and Health. Over 500 contacts were made and 43 potential projects identified. Of those in the process of setting up, a quarter are from London where efforts were focused this year, working closely with AMAF and Monaco’s Embassy in the UK.

Across the board, the MEB continued to expand its networks, particularly Monaco Business Étranger (MBE) which federates expat Monegasques and ‘Enfants du Pays’ and has 152 members. It also continues its task to coordinate public and private bodies to promote Monaco abroad, thanks mainly to a three-year electronic calendar and a Newsletter for Monaco’s Diplomatic and Consular Corps and the MBE network.

2018: opportunities and new horizons

Among highlights on this year’s calendar are Trade Missions to Stockholm (26/28 March), Frankfurt (June), Beijing (September) and Hanoi (November). Promotional operations will continue to focus on London as well as Switzerland. Others are planned for Singapore, Dubai, Trieste, Milan and Warsaw.  In Monaco, visits by foreign delegations and themed conferences will give member companies a variety of opportunities to make contacts to grow their business. On the communications side, the MEB is looking at creating a mobile App primarily for members.

The MEB already has an eye on 2019 and its 20th anniversary. Rather than looking back, the plan is to ask members and partners to reflect on how Monaco’s economy will look in ten years. The results will be unveiled at the AGM in 2019.
