Monaco Economic Board prepares important mission to Russia for June 2022

16/09/2021

Monaco Economic Board (MEB) alongside the Monaco Embassy in Russia took part in an official visit 5-10 September in a collaboration with the Monaco Consulate in Moscow and Promotion Office of the Principality of Monaco in Russia. The project reflects the particularly close economic relationship between Monaco and the Russian Federation.

MEB Executive Director General Guillaume Rose met representatives of all partner Chambers of Commerce in St Petersburg and Moscow:

  • Mrs Ekaterina Lebedeva, President of the St Petersburg Chamber of Commerce,
  • Mrs Lilia Arakelova, Director of International Relations of the Leningrad region’s Chamber of Commerce,
  • Representatives of the St Petersburg Business Russia branch under the leadership of Mr Dimitri Panov, its President,
  • Mr Alexandr Kopkov, Director of International Cooperation of the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce,
  • Mr Suren Vardanyan, Vice-President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce,
  • Mrs Nonna Kagramanyan, Vice-President of Business Russia.

From all these meetings it is clear that there is a real desire to collaborate in some form with companies in the Principality. A decision was taken to organise a Trade Mission to St Petersburg involving MEB member companies and businesses in Russia’s north-west region in the month of June 2022.

Several areas for development were mentioned:

  • Business incubators
  • The digital transition
  • Renewable energies and the energy transition
  • Trade, in particular the overseas dimension
  • The health sector

An appointment was made to ensure regular follow-up with all those involved to ensure this Trade Mission goes ahead in the best conditions.

A highlight of this reconnaissance mission was the dinner hosted by H.E. Mrs Mireille Pettiti on 8 September in Moscow attended by Russian personalities from the business, politics and academic circles, attended by Mr Igor Yurgens, Honorary Consul of Monaco in Moscow. It was an opportunity for Guillaume Rose to recall that 2021 marks the 15th anniversary since diplomatic relations were established between Monaco and Russia, and give a presentation on the Principality and its economy. The project to organise a Trade Mission to St Petersburg in 2022 was favourably received.
