Some 250 players from across the economic spectrum attended the Monaco Economic Board’s 28th Members Rendezvous. In his New Year speech, MEB Chairman Michel Dotta highlighted the escalation of collaborations between public and quasi-public entities in Monaco and announced major events for 2017 which looks set to be even busier than last year.

2017 got off to an excellent start with a full house for this first MEB networking event of the year. Most sectors were represented, with the calibre of attendees proving how popular and useful this quarterly gathering has become for the business community.

As is custom at the start of the year, Michel Dotta listed the activities planned, some of which will go ahead only if there is enough interest from members.

To improve effectiveness, in November 2016 HE Minister of State Serge Telle charged the MEB with coordinating the agendas of public and quasi-public bodies for trips abroad. Pooling information and the discussions which ensued resulted in more possibilities being envisaged.

Among destinations proposed are Mexico with the Tourism and Convention Authority in November; Moscow on an initiative of the Monaco Ambassador when the Ballets de Monte-Carlo performs at the Bolshoi in October; Kazakhstan this summer during Astana Expo-2017 with the support of Monaco Inter Expo; and China under the aegis of the Monaco Ambassador who is organising events in Chengdu and Hong Kong in June. In the more immediate future there is also Singapore in April, Slovakia in May and Israel in June.

For its part, the Monaco Invest team will be focused on Great Britain and Switzerland, working closely with AMAF and Monaco’s diplomatic and consular networks in those countries.

To enhance global promotion of the Principality, the MEB and its Communications Department is set to launch an eNews in the spring for all Monegasque networks abroad.

Meanwhile at home, the MEB will be hosting business delegations from Montenegro, Slovakia, Moldovia and Brazil, as well as organising its popular Ambassador’s Lunches. Three conferences are also on the agenda to give members a better understanding of the local and international business environment. They start with COFACE on 26 January and its Country Risk analysis, then another in partnership with IMSEE on 21 June and finally Euler Hermes on 17 October.
