International formalities: MEB rolls out dematerialisation procedures

25/03/2024

The Monaco Economic Board, in its capacity as a chamber of commerce, is the point of contact for Monegasque companies wishing to obtain certified documents to enable them to export their goods outside the European Union. After the ATA carnets in 2019, it will be possible to issue all international formalities from 4th April, via a dedicated portal.

With the introduction of electronic signatures in the Principality, the Monaco Economic Board has gradually rolled out the dematerialisation of its international formalities service, with the support of the Interministerial Delegation for Digital Transition and in conjunction with the International Chamber of Commerce and the network of French chambers of commerce.

Monaco and France form a customs union Export formalities are therefore common to both countries. The network of French chambers of commerce, to which the MEB belongs, has set up the GEFI* common digital portal, which enables companies in each region (or country in the case of Monaco) to complete their export formalities electronically. Managed by the Paris Chamber of Commerce, the Monegasque version of this portal has had to be adapted to meet the Principality's specific requirements.

Following the introduction of this system for temporary exports (ATA carnets) in 2019, it will now be possible to complete all international formalities on the GEFI portal from 4th April. This is good news for the planet, as this activity consumes a lot of paper.

To anticipate this development, the Monaco Economic Board organised a presentation of this tool on Wednesday 20th March for people who manage this type of procedure on a daily basis within their company. Over fifty specialists attended the very detailed presentation given by Olivier Barret, International Formalities Adviser at the Paris Chamber of Commerce. A wealth of information much appreciated by the participants, who were quick to ask many technical questions.

The MEB's International Formalities department has also planned a transition period during which it will offer Monegasque companies wishing to do so the opportunity to come to our offices to complete these formalities online with support.

Guillaume Rose commented: "With this new stage in the dematerialisation process, the Monaco Economic Board is confirming its commitment to providing efficient, high-quality international formalities services for all the Principality's economic players. This is important for the competitiveness of the Monegasque economy and the fluidity of our commercial transactions.”
